One of the best ways to help yourself, or get a friend to help themselves, is by using your phone to help you overcome some of your negative thoughts, calm your anxiety, or monitor your mood.
This page will hopefully help you find an app that works for you or someone you care about.
Calm is a brilliant app to help calm your anxiety, improve your sleep and make you feel happier. It was voted App of the Year 2017 by Apple. It has a number of free meditations and classes as well as offering support and advice to calm yourself.

It provides a choice of alternative activities to help you engage and express yourself in other ways when the need to self-harm is high. From distraction and comfort, to release and breathing exercises, this app has everything you need to find something else to do.
Available wherever you get your apps.
Pacifica is another app that is similar to Calm. Pacifica offers a range of meditations as well as a journal and an exercise which lets you explore your negative thoughts and see how you can change them into more positive ones.
Available on Android and the App Store
MoodPath is a great starting point if you're beginning to notice a change in your mental health. MoodPath asks you to log your mood three times a day for two weeks. After the two weeks are up, it gives you a summary of your mood and how it has been. This can be really useful to use as a starting point if you feel like you need to see someone for more help. You can show them how your mood has been for the last two weeks.
Headspace was created so more people could experience the benefits of meditation anytime, anywhere. It offers similar support to the apps above: guided meditations, animations, articles and videos. Headspace is widely used across the world and has both free and paid for content.
